A first meeting with Aveley awaits at Parkside tomorrow and it will be a tough ask with only 12-13 fit players. You would imagine Brennan Camp will be out for a while now and Marc said in the post match that Murphy and JNW won't be rushed back.

Aveley sit 22nd with 2 points after making the playoffs in their debut NLS season last year.

Aveley 0-0 Dorking

578 att.

                               Foulkes

           Gallagher        Craig       Fuller

      Muitt         J.Taylor        McManus     Bowerman

                               Carter

                      Prior        Rutherford

Subs: Briggs, Pybus, Kennedy(!?), Brown, Rawlins

Hope we nick it 1-0 but that's not a prediction, just wishful thinking.

Attendance looks likely to be around the 500 mark

Not sure if I can make this one atm - I don't think it's on NLTV - any commentary does anyone know?

Not going to make it either unfortunately.  Surely Pybus will start though?  And what is the point of keeping Kennedy on the books if he is not going to feature on nights like this, when down to the bare bones?  He has always performed well when called upon.

Had all the ball but the finishing was shockingly bad despite fantastic service from Briggs, Muitt and Williams.

Prior and Williams came off worse than they started. Briggs subbed before he got sent off which was a shame (but necessary), thought he was having a strong game again.

Rutherford looks massively lacking in confidence, Carter shots either blocked or off target.

We really are Injury FC again. Well done Joel for the late goal, and the other young lad who came on that I have never heard of before (Wooster?)

Smashing ground, but a pain to get to without a car i would think.

On the positive, went over the Dartford bridge going home at 1 minute past 10, so saved a couple of quid on the toll.

Also the stewards there were super friendly, how it should be.

@dorking-eagle I think you have got that spot on. Facilities and organisation very good. Their manager and fans outrageous in their pursuit of bookings and red cards.

Haven't been able to watch or listen to as many games this season. One thing I noted from Marc's reaction is that he is still hesitant to grab a loan. I appreciate him being as fiscally responsible as one can with a football team, but if we are lacking in the final third, at least get a loan striker (sure costly), but it seems we are having problems there and need someone so Murphy and Prior can heal, and we can actually score goals. Hoping Alfie finds his mojo soon.

Marc seemed very hesitant to bring in new reinforcements. Could be he is being fiscally responsible, or it could be the club just doesn't have the money to do so? Always seems to be a 12th man appeal ongoing, perhaps the existing squad has maxxed out the budget?

Last season the club was crying out for reinforcements all through an injury crisis and poor form, but the last player to come in was Hollis in mid-November.

Marc has put his faith in this squad, very loyal to many players remembering their good times at the club. Those players are literally running themselves into the ground, playing until they are broken, which then puts more load onto those who are soldiering on.

To be fair the B team seem to be flying, there must be a handful of them with something to give, even if it's off the bench at first.

One game a week (as long as FA Cup games doesn't go to a replay and Surrey Cup is treated as a B game) could massively help for a month.

@baggy I was surprised he was given a new deal, never seems to feature much or even make a bench sometimes

@dorking-eagle I think you're right on a few counts here.

Prior surely cannot go on like this, he's a big lad, older, and gives it his all so must really be feeling it - and may well be one of the key reasons we are not finishing (I've noticed before that he can be slower to join a quick attack).

Regarding loans - Marc did say in his post match the players are 'well paid' so reading between the lines, no, I don't think there's a whole lot to give in that respect, and the B team may hold some answers for now. Does anyone have a B team list of players? Just the sort of thing you might find in a (printed) programme... 😉

Of course a cup run would help greatly in this respect 😀

Getting really tough to watch us basically play the same match every week for the last 3-4 years. Dominate games, not take (or even create) enough chances, concede a couple of dreadful goals, lose 2 players to injury. Every. Single. Week.

I can't begin to fathom how bad our finances must be for us not to be able to sign some League One academy lad on loan for a month...

Marc mentioned about us having goalscoring wingers in his post match interview - Briggs, Muitt and Bowerman have a combined 17 goals in our last 2 and a bit seasons. They have also missed a combined 144 matches. As they say, "the best ability is availability".

Feel a little bit sorry for Rutherford as he will have probably taken quite a lot of heat from Marc post match but the service in to him was absolutely dreadful all game. Almost every single cross hit the first man in the first half and the second half wasn't much better either. I'm not even sure why we thought putting lofted crosses in to their 6'5" centre backs all game was a good idea but oh well.

Happy to see Joel grab a goal last night but I really don't think any of the academy lads are quite up to the grade yet if I am being honest. Step 6 is such a big difference to this level. Joel Brown aside, Hayden Gale looked like possibly the only one but he's out on loan (can we recall??) and possibly Sal Marino as well. Good to see Neo Wooster (B Team captain) get some minutes and I noticed that Ollie Rawlins and Zak Cahusac were warming up with the team before the game as well.

Predicted line-up for Weymouth might be the easiest one ever as we now only have 11 fit players:

                    Foulkes

      Gallagher     Craig     Fuller

Briggs     McManus     Pybus        Muitt

                      J.Taylor

             Carter     Rutherford

I agree on the crosses issue, Tom. It's becoming a little predictable and too many opposition teams have 6ft plus giants who just get in the way or whack it clear. I'd like to see more attacks through the centre, take players on more centrally and get into goalscoring opportunities that way. We have the players who can easily do this (Carter, Muitt, Briggs) but seem too often to concentrate on getting it out wide first.

Ade, the B team do have a small but normal format digital programme, with an archive of all this seasons on the club website. I wonder if one of the academy scholars produces it as part of their education programme?

Anyway here is that list (click on attachment to open)

There will prob be an opportunity to see most of them in the Surrey Senior Cup game in Oct

Looks like we have reached our sustainable level now (mid table).  The priority now should be two good cup runs.  The cash received from the 12th Man scheme must NOT be used on the day-to-day costs of supporting the playing squad.  To achieve sustainability we need to invest in the infrastructure, that is, acquiring Meadowbank, getting rid of the Surrey FA and developing West Humble.

I thought there were sufficient good crosses to score from, Rutherford wasn't getting near much at all. Carter and Josh were just blazing shots off target. Couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo last night. And when you concede the first goal there's added pressure, like at Torquay (albeit it was a 'worldie' there). The defence doesn't look like clean sheets are going to be regular.

Still think Muitt would have been a better option than Rutherford as striker, if only Briggs could have played the full 90. Be interested if JNW is out again for a week or two now with what looked like a strain.

Marc must be putting ever increasing amounts into the club to pay near full time / NL wages. Loads of gaps where there used to be perimiter advert boards at our home ground. Don't know what players are getting but if they are also surveyors, accountants, engineers, plumbers as well and effectively doing 2 x jobs is that an issue?

I would think most NL clubs that class themselves as full time the players just do football, not dashing to other jobs. Is our awful pitch stopping us getting great loans from the likes of Palace, Brighton, Crawley etc?

Not panicking, but it looks like it is going to be a slog for a while.
