On to Enfield Town Saturday. Bottom of the league but that doesn't mean much (remember Weymouth...)
Anyway I'll go for...
Dorking W (2)5 Enfield (1)3 Carter(4), Young
1,399 (151 from North London)
Any intel for the away numbers Ade? Would have thought it'd be half that what with their form, league position etc and they've visted our ground before in the Bostik League
"Why would I leave to join a League Two club? We're going there anyway!" - Marc White
Hopefully a relatively fresh squad going into this after a week off. Weather looks like it’s going to be very wet,but fancy a 2-0 home win
@dorking-eagle I'll try and find out - but yes, I think that might be optimistic, unless the Marc White/BOA factor kicks in...!
As confident as you can be of home win!
3-1 Dorking, I think the gate will be low the forecast looking slightly better but still dreadful! 1100 possibly lower it not going to be for faint hearted!
45mph winds might be a leveller!
Not hugely confident of us at home at the moment but I think we'll have enough to get over the line.
Dorking 2-0 Enfield Town (Craig, Rutherford)
1,149 att.
Foulkes
Camp Craig Norville-Williams
Muitt Gallagher Young Randall
Carter
Rutherford Prior
Subs: Francomb, Williams, Briggs, McManus, McShane(!)
Sounds like McManus is still not back so I assume Alexandrou takes his place on the bench.
Could be a scrappy one in the conditions. I’m going for 2-1. Rutherford and Carter.
Clearly everyone feels the same, one to forget or are people still drying out!
Only a couple of things of note, terrible decision not to give a penalty at 1-0 and I notice Marc post match appears to be off youtube hope he's not in too much trouble!
Enfield by far the worst side to have visited this season - created nothing bar the goal and showed very little interest in getting more than a point. Some of their passing was woeful.
Conditions were very much against us, trying to play a passing game on that pitch in the wind and rain - not ideal and it showed.
Agree with Marc re the ref - wanted to make it about himself and that was about all he got right. Never seen a more blatant pen - and if that was our defender it would 100% be given against us. I'm never one for overly criticising the refs btw, or for making out they might be biased, but I do think some of them might subconsciously be thinking about BOA and Marc a little too much.
What worries me though is yet again we faded in the second half. Started very strongly (again), failed to convert enough then looked tired at the start of the 2nd half.
One positive - Briggsy looked much sharper and more dangerous. Would like to see him start Monday and give Jimmy a well earned rest.
@epsomwanderer Bit of both, my jeans are soaked still and that was just from the walk back to town after the game.
Yeah on paper disappointing result against a team at the bottom (again!).
Ref was terrible and so were the conditions so just have to chalk it off and forget.
Annoying to lose JP leaving us with just Alfie (Theo not really ready yet), and no sign of Rhys anytime soon.
@gary-munnery Rhys was training on the pitch before the game with Moore and Josh Taylor so he might not be too far away.
On the match, it was a hard one to anaylse due to the conditions. We would comfortably win that game in normal conditions but I think it was clear to see, even from other results in the league, that the weather really had an impact on matches on Saturday. That being said, it is a third straight 1-1 draw at home where we haven't played well...
Agreed the ref was terrible but I don't think it needs a 12 minute rant about it. I assume Marc will get a ban due to that now (he also got a yellow card after the final whistle).
I agree @adeb, Briggs looked really good when he came on and I think today would be a good game to give him a start over Muitt. Alfie looks to be really finding his groove again as well which is great to see. On the negative side, I think the Randall signing was probably a mistake. I don't see the point of signing a player on a short term loan when he hasn't kicked a ball for 2 months and probably won't get up to speed during the time he is here...
Some stats:
Possession: Dorking 68% - 32% Enfield
xG: Dorking 0.81 - 0.27 Enfield
Shots (On Target): Dorking 12 (2) - Enfield 3 (1)
Passes (Accurate): Dorking 557 (465) - 197 (131) Enfield
Top Performer: Alfie Rutherford [8.1]
The key stat there is the 2 shots on target. Not good enough with all that possession. I can't remember one effort on goal in the second half. Agree that Briggs looked very sharp and deserves some more game time. But I agree the opposition were the worst seen at Meadowbank this season and really should have been put away in the first half. Murphy I gather may go out on loan to get up to match fitness, but I would just stick him in as soon as possible. I don't think Theo is quite ready yet. Only consolation is that I was under cover for 90 minutes.
