Dorking Wandering
The Dorking Wanderers FC Fans Forum
And here it is, to be played on Sat 14 October:
Horsham v Dorking Wanderers.
A local derby! And surely a chance to put our FA hoodoo to bed???
@adeb I think a mixture of a few things - missing the senior lads Craig and Fuller. Defensive form has really dipped since Craig went off injured v Wealdstone. Missing some real creative players in Bowerman, McShane, Muitt, etc. You imagine that Seb or Jimmy would have had much better delivery.
I'll be honest though, I don't think we dominated Barnet at any point. We just capitalised on some defensive frailties early. Also, Kuhl is 28 in a couple of months!
@calvertskans Yes, fair points. Didn't realise Kuhl was that age!
One other thing - never known our support to be so quiet (usually unwavering and non stop whatever the score) - maybe it was all just too flat..
@epsomwanderer That's a good point and something I noticed too - maybe we weren't fired up enough?
@epsomwanderer agreed with almost everything in Marc’s post match …. But the 2 weeks off message was something a bit odd and may have played a part (..it seemed strange and there wasn’t too much mention or talk/ focus on the FA Cup 🤔)
A big opportunity missed to get into the proper rounds of the FA Cup and the chance to play some ‘league’ teams 😔
Back to the NL now and we need to pick up some points to avoid a downturn … players coming back and a ‘kick up the ass’ defeat yesterday should help 🙌 👍

As if it didn't hurt enough yesterday, now we get to see Marc's interview go viral and appear every 5 seconds 🙃
On a side note, I hope yesterday is the end of the "lucky jacket" nonsense...
Hope the team move on quickly and return to NL form with some players returning soon too … meanwhile I’m still gutted 😞
I think the game was bigger for Horsham and the incentive seemed higher for them, beating a team 2 divisions above and a ‘local derby’ … our boys weren’t on it for a number of reasons I think 🤔… eg as above ‘2 weeks off’ and also another small example - seeing the players driving to the game and parking their cars in the ‘park & ride’ and walking to the ground 😮 was strange - maybe it felt like a casual game , which is how they played
Ok time to move on … meanwhile Horsham drawn in FA Cup 1st round away to Barnsley …

Yep. Rubs it in to see that cup draw.
Agree with all the not up for it comments.
On the tactics, this season Josh Taylor had played much further forward. He is not there running from deep or building up the attacks. Whilst he has chipped in up front - like last week- I think the team loses a lot in creativity with him that far forward.
I thought the Pybus / Kuhl axis might work quite well but yesterday they were both below par so hard to judge it as an option.
Anyway, just booked coach for Alty - thanks lads!
Apparently Muitt and Rutherford played decent minutes for Bognor yesterday so hopefully they aren't far off a return to the red and white
Mooro was on the bench too yesterday
Good times will be back soon

@dorking-eagle Muitt played 83 mins, Rutherford played 45. Moore and Fuller have been on the bench last 2 games. McManus was involved in the warmup as well.
McShane and Bowerman seem to be in a perpetual state of "4 weeks away".
Tony Craig has been the big loss these last few weeks and he doesn't seem to have been given a timeframe which is concerning...
On another note, what are all your views on the segregation - or lack of - as at Horsham?
Personally, I much prefer games to be segregated - you know where your fans are gathered and it really helps the overall atmosphere. I get that it might feel 'friendlier' and that's fine, but it's also a potentially risky policy - and would never work at Meadowbank (thankfully).
And why did it sound like the 'lardy army' singing was coming from behind the main stand in the second half? Could here there singing (not loud) but couldn't see anyone?!
In terms of away games.....
When we were in the NLS (and below) and never took more than 100 anywhere I was happy for it to be unsegregated and changing ends. About two-thirds of our fans stood behind the relevant goal we were attacking and the rest spread around in dribs and drabs, a few sat in the stand etc. It worked well, albeit we had to lurk on the halfway line until the coin toss
About the only fixture that could ever have done with it in the NLS was Maidstone away when their feral kids threw coins and bottles at us
In the National League, everywhere has been segregated except Solihull (twice) and Maidenhead
Maidenhead was absolutely like a NLS awayday, changed ends, not a vast number of us (150?) and it worked fine.
At Solihull, both times the vast majority of Dorking fans have opted to stand where we would have been put had segregation been in place. And in my opinion it did really need it - the home fans there were quite vociforous/partisan against the away contingent and stewards did position themselves between us. I can only think that Solihull don't choose to segregate for 'lesser' teams because they are too tight to have to staff separate turnstiles and to provide separate catering. Which is a shame because a small element of home' youths' do try and spoil it for away fans who don't want any trouble.
At Horsham, they could have done segregation but it would have required them to put us all somewhere separate and they only have one seated stand. I sat in that and it was all very friendly, I didn't encounter any animosity all day, and the Horsham volunteer stewards were lovely. However, like at most places when there isn't segregation, the majority of Dorking fans did end up choosing to stand together anyway in that side shelter. And in the 2nd half once Horsham cleared off towards the clubhouse end, Dorking fans also had the run of the far end as well. Which actually diluted the concentration of support and noise
The Lardy army singing in the 2nd half was coming from the side shelter nearest the clubhouse, which they absolutely rammed full of their fans, the sound might have 'bounced off' the seated stand as echo's sometimes can?

It's gone, lets look to having a proper cup run in the Trophy, good luck to the people at Horsham of course but no point dwelling on it now
