What do we reckon for the long trip to Halifax this week? Another clean sheet? Maybe even a win?

I reckon Halifax are a better outfit than last season, so it might be a struggle. But maybe we are owed a bit of luck after last week’s ghost goal ? Three clean sheets on the spin would be some sort of record surely??

Three clean sheets in a row probably wouldn't have been unheard of in our last promotion season (any stattos out there?!) but three 0-0's in a row would be quite incredible for this club! Not sure that has ever been a thing!

Did a bit of background reading to satisfy my own curiosity, and thought I would share what I have found out:

FC HALIFAX TOWN TIMELINE

1911 – Halifax Town AFC were formed;

1921 – Halifax Town AFC begin playing at The Shay and joined the Football League;

1921-1992 - in this 72 year period, Halifax Town were 're-elected' six times;

1993 – Halifax Town AFC relegated from the Football League (after 72 years) to the Conference;

1998 – Halifax Town AFC crowned Conference Champions and promoted back to the Football League;

2002 – Halifax Town AFC relegated from the Football League back to the Conference;

2008 – Club wound up due to debts. Re-formed as “FC Halifax Town” and started afresh in the Northern Premier League Div 1 (N) – step 4 of non-league football.

2010 - FC Halifax Town win promotion from non-league step 4 to step 3;

2011 - FC Halifax Town win second promotion in a row (with Jamie Vardy as top scorer) and go into the Conference North (ie NLN) ;

2013 - Promotion won to the National League.

Good work @Dorking Eagle!

Hadn’t realised they had reformed so recently. Let’s hope they haven’t got another Jamie Vardy  up front for them 😬

Will be interesting to see who we play at the back for this one. Fuller had started every game so far this season but is out for a month now.

I would assume Bobby-Joe just slots in to the left of the three but Halifax are quite a tall/physical side so he might go for someone else. Probably a bit too early to be throwing Kennedy in to the starting XI considering he's only played 1 minute so far this season...

I think it will be:

                       Male

       Francomb   Craig   B. Taylor

Blair      Pybus        Gallagher     Bowerman

                     J. Taylor

               McShane   Prior

That seems a likely XI.  It might make sense to play Gallagher v a physical Halifax, but otherwise Kuhl would be my shout. Seager for Macca perhaps too.
but what has happened to Everett? Not fit yet?

Man of the match poll added. If your choice isn't shown, choose other and say who on here!

Incidentally on the 'prediction poll' we did, only 1 person (14%) correctly predicted a Dorking win!

Just such a joyous day, boys dug in to get the win over the line

Especially after being robbed of a good goal last week at Oldham

Hopefully with so many long trips this side of Xmas we can go into those games more confident now!

Pybus my mom by the way, lots of positive attacking passes

What a fantastic win and away day!

Defensively the team carried on from second half vs Oldham and looked very well organised and solid. Gallagher looked to be part of a back four really and allowed Pybus to get on the ball a bit more in the first half, which was pretty even.  I agree with Marc that we look a better outfit than the start of last season - defence more solid but not yet playing the DW way going forward. Part of that is down to injuries- the lack of fire power down the right made it difficult to keep possession and pose a threat going forward.  Will be good to have Briggsy back on Tuesday. Quality of passing and ball retention can improve but a very good week oop north.

@Gary Pascoe - Tom Blair worked hard and is physically strong, but we didn’t see him dance round any full backs or deliver telling crosses. Early days though.

Is it too much to hope for two home wins now and a good nudge up the table? 💪

  1. Loving the new shape and system we are starting play, atm  once we get a few more options in attack wih players coming back in the side I can see us playing some great gun slinging football and will be raining goals , man of the match is hard from yesterday but I would say pybus or josh taylor the energy in midfield was top draw
