We face league leaders Hemel Hempstead Town at Meadowbank for "Wanderers Non League Day" where adult tickets are £10 if purchased in advance. Hemel currently sit on 21 points but have only taken 1 point from their last 2 games. They are also the joint top scorers in the division with 19 goals.

Some fans may remember the last time we played Hemel as the famous 2-1 win despite playing 87+ mins with 10 men and Alfie Rutherford in goal!

Charlie Carter came off injured against Hornchurch but Marc suggested in the post match that this was just a knock, so it remains to be seen if he will be fit enough to play this weekend. Marc also mentioned in the update last week that Aaron Kuhl should return for Saturday. Josh Taylor, Luke Moore, James McShane and Brennan Camp would be the likely definite absentees for Wanderers. We await news on expected return dates for the likes of Matt Briggs, Niall McManus and Barry Fuller after they all missed the Hornchurch game as well.

Predictions

Dorking 3-3 Hemel Hempstead (Rutherford, Bowerman, Murphy)

1,713 att.

                                   Foulkes

             Brooking           Craig          Milsom

 Muitt                  Pybus           Gallagher        Bowerman

                                   Carter

                       Prior               Rutherford

Subs: Francomb, Norville-Williams, Kuhl, Alexandrou, Murphy

I would probably start with Murphy and Rutherford for this game or Alexandrou and Rutherford.

I am not convinced that Prior is anywhere near this level anymore. If he has an injury he needs to rest and get fit, and then we can see from there if he can still do a job. He looks too slow and ponderous to be a threat especially against the better teams in the league.

I think there is a lot of sentiment in still playing him now when his levels are not up to scratch and have not been all season long.

Norville-Williams is a more explosive and effective option down the left than Bowerman is. Bowerman is another one who has not been performing at the level we need, and I know who Hemel would prefer to face between Bowerman and Norville-Williams and its not Bowerman.

It depends on the selection and tactics but on the balance here you would favour a draw like 2-2. Best case scenario is 2-1 Dorking.

Excited to see Kuhl return, spraying passes over the pitch. Brilliant player at this level. Fancy us to knick a tight game 2-1 with Alfie scoring again

I agree that Prior shouldn't start. His knee has been bothering him, and more time to heal would be great, since we have Murphy and Alex now. I'm hoping the goals last week, especially from Alfie, create the confidence moving forward to score more. Hoping for a 2-1 win, but would be satisfied with a draw. I know JNW isn't fully match fit yet, but will be exciting to have him in the mix for as much as possible. He looks so threatening.

Just a reminder...

Joint top goalscorer this season: Jason Prior (3)

Joint highest assists this season: Seb Bowerman (2)

While I agree that Murphy and JNW would probably start over both of them, they have only just returned from injury and only played a handful of minutes last weekend. They should be nowhere near starting at least for another week. We need to get away from rushing injured players back from the start and instead slowly build up minutes.

@calvertskans

So the approach is we do not want to rush back the fit players from injury, because we have an injured playing with an injury instead.

I just find the whole situation absolutely bizarre with Jason. The Jason from 4 years go, I get it. The lad is 36 in December and has not been up to it for some considerable time now. Injury or no injury. In football there is no room for sentiment.

Let's not bash Jason too much please, he scored our last goal after all! And he was putting in the 90s when Murph was out injured.

Totally get he should be used sparingly going forward, but he still has a role to play

@dorking-eagle Agreed, the issues have largely been out of his control - playing when not fully fit mostly.

@jacksonfairweather Prior has played 45 mins in the last 3 weeks, I would expect him to be in a pretty good position physically to start matches. We also have no midweek game next week.

I don't think people realise how important Prior is defensively from set pieces. Watch us defend corners and free kicks and count how many he gets first contact on.

That being said, I don't know enough about the height and physicality of the Hemel Hempstead side to get an idea of how effective Prior will be. The reason Marc didn't start him against Hornchurch was only because they were quite a large and physical side.

In terms of minutes for those returning from injury, I would be looking at 45 mins max for Murphy and 35-45 mins for JNW ideally. I imagine Kuhl will see some minutes as well.

Midfielder Jack Young joins on loan from Wycombe until January. I wonder if this means we have more injuries in midfield...

@calvertskans I don't think so, this one's been a possible for a little while, he needs game time and fits really well with our style of play too. Probably another of Marc's deals.

Injury updates are becoming a bit more scarce but it sounds like Murphy, Moore, Briggs, McShane and Camp all miss out tomorrow. No mention of Josh Taylor but I assume he misses out as well. McManus returns to the squad though.

I reckon it will be something like this:

                                    Foulkes

             Brooking            Craig            Milsom

   Muitt                Pybus            McManus           Bowerman

                                      Carter

                          Prior(😉)    Rutherford

Subs: Norville-Williams, Francomb, Young, Kuhl, Alexandrou

Sounds like Murphy is not going to be fit, which is a shame, as he had some minutes last week. Without him, our goal threat is much reduced.  If fit, I would like to see Francomb in central midfield alongside Pybus - he is such a good footballer. And Brooking would be another option there, if Jordan can come in on left side and Francomb doing the right.  Hopefully Kuhl can get some minutes in too and looking forward to seeing Jack Young too. Sounds like a good bit of business, given the injury situation.

I agree that Prior does a massive job defensively at set pieces, but TC and Francomb are pretty good too. Would love to see Jason get on the end of one or two of the crosses coming in this afternoon.  No doubt it will be a very tough match - defence will have to be solid. A win would be massive, but a 1-1 draw is where my guess is.

What a game! So glad National League TV was actually broadcasting this one. It was great to watch our team perform so well. Brooking and Muitt are playing really well together. However, there were so many opportunities that we did not convert. It felt, especially in the first half, it could have been 4 or 5 to 0. Best Wanderers side I have seen in a long time. Going to be buzzing for the rest of the day/weekend/maybe even week on that win.
