Dorking Wandering
The Dorking Wanderers FC Fans Forum
We face league leaders Hemel Hempstead Town at Meadowbank for "Wanderers Non League Day" where adult tickets are £10 if purchased in advance. Hemel currently sit on 21 points but have only taken 1 point from their last 2 games. They are also the joint top scorers in the division with 19 goals.
Some fans may remember the last time we played Hemel as the famous 2-1 win despite playing 87+ mins with 10 men and Alfie Rutherford in goal!
Charlie Carter came off injured against Hornchurch but Marc suggested in the post match that this was just a knock, so it remains to be seen if he will be fit enough to play this weekend. Marc also mentioned in the update last week that Aaron Kuhl should return for Saturday. Josh Taylor, Luke Moore, James McShane and Brennan Camp would be the likely definite absentees for Wanderers. We await news on expected return dates for the likes of Matt Briggs, Niall McManus and Barry Fuller after they all missed the Hornchurch game as well.

Brilliant performance, very happy with that - that is how you play if you want to finish top 3
(the rest is down to the Wanderers gods)
Great to see JP9 proving the doubters wrong again too

Yes, that was the best performance I can remember for a long while, certainly since Chesterfield, and probably way before that.
Right from the start every player was on it, winning the duels and getting the passing and lay offs to feet, enabling quick attacks. Should have been out of sight, 4-0, by half time. So Marc has finally ditched the slow play out from the back, keeping the ball in own half, for something more dynamic. With Milsom and Brooking able to get the play and play lovely passes into feet down the sides, it felt much more threatening throughout. Brooking and Muitt combining down the right was great to see and Alfie was really lively, causing a headache for defence all game. Everyone played well I thought, and Jason should really have scored two before he got one; but the off the ball running and intensity really made the difference. Hemel were surprisingly poor all over the pitch, for League leaders - their goals were out of nowhere and absolutely the scoreline flattered them. If we play like that every week, the season looks very promising ....
Great performance on Saturday (and week before)!
It seems the break has done us the world of good and getting through the worst of injury crisis.
But the turn in form is really not that surprising to me all season we have been playing great football, possible with one or two off days.
When we play with a swagger and chests pumped out there are really only one or two team that can live with us, onwards and upwards, bring on next Saturday. Going to really nag pub friends to come along we are playing great stuff!
I'll be interested to see @TomCalvert's stats on the game. In terms of XG it must be 3+ to about 0.7 at least. Most shots on goal this season I am sure and maybe fewest against. I can only remember one big chance they had.
Great to hear interview with Alfie saying he was back to full strength now. He and Jason linked up together really well and got us up the pitch from some of the longer passes coming from the back. And always good to see them both on the scoresheet -keeps David happy too 😀
@baggy Annoyingly, the stats are not up yet for the match on Sofascore ☹️ All the other NLS matches have the stats up but not Dorking v Hemel. I assume the stats come from Wyscout but I am not sure who the responsibility sits with to get those uploaded (the club, the league, wyscout/sofascore themselves, etc?). I think it might partly be because the game was streamed on NLTV so the club don't have immediate access to the footage, or something like that.
Either way, yes this will comfortably be our best performance statistically as we had a ton of very good chances and barely conceded a big chance other than the penalty. Really great to see us with some swagger going forward now and the likes of Rutherford, Prior, Bowerman, Carter and Muitt all delivering week after week.
Small moan - we really need to start keeping some clean sheets. Only one all season isn't great and there will be games against better opposition to come where we can expect to not create as many chances as we did on Saturday. It will be interesting to see who we play in the middle of the back 3 this weekend with TC suspended. I imagine it will be Francomb or Gallagher but long term I would love to see a back 3 of Camp, Brooking and Milsom (or even JNW).
Side note, the attendance wasn't particuarly great at 1,214 but that is somewhat expected with these hastily re-arranged games. We saw a similar thing around this time last season when Dagenham (H) was re-arranged for a Saturday. The rain was obviously a factor as well.
I still think 1214 is better than it would have been as a Tuesday night game in February, which had all the makings of a sub-1000 gate
Of course we'll never know what it could have been to be fair
Lets hope for a mega cup run in the FA Trophy, and if we do have that, at least it's one less game in the middle of that run
As long as we don't draw Horsham of course 🤔

@calvertskans I also loved the increasing amount of play through the middle, especially into the penalty area - a bit less reliant on crosses which was getting a bit predictable. Thought Niall was excellent again, as was Alfie - but really everyone seemed to be hitting form.
@adeb Yup, Niall has quietly been our best player these past couple of months which is always great to see.
How good is Josh Brooking though?! Genuinely might go on to be the greatest player to ever play for us...
@calvertskans Absolute quality. Seems such a decent man too. He'll go on to much greater things.
