It's that time again - local rivals Horsham away in the FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round. Last year saw a horrific 2-0 defeat against a depleted Wanderers XI but let's hope this years depleted Wanderers XI can fare better.

The Horsham side contains two ex-Wanderers in the form of Isaac Philpot and Charlie Hester-Cook, while Sami El-Abd remains as a coach.

Brennan Camp, Aaron Kuhl, Luke Moore and James McShane remain mid to longer term absentees while you would expect Barry Fuller and Jordan Norville-Williams to miss out also. Rhys Murphy is expected to come back to the side but there is no news on the worrying injury thta Josh Taylor suffered against Weymouth. Bobby-Joe Taylor apparently serves the last game of his suspension even though he already has missed the last 3 matches. Josh Brooking is apparently also unlikely to feature to avoid being cup-tied.

Predictions

Horsham 1-1 Dorking (Craig)

2,674 att.

                           Foulkes

          Francomb     Craig      Gallagher

Briggs        Pybus         McManus       Bowerman

                            Carter

                    Prior          Murphy

Subs: Cahusac, Brown, Wooster, Myles, Muitt, Rutherford, Rawlins

I reckon Briggs will be rewarded with a start after some really good recent performances. Pace of our back 3 really concerns me and we don't really have any other options if they pick up an injury...

Sadly - and I really, really hope I'm wrong but these injuries are devastating;

Horsham (1)2 Dorking W (0)1

2,711 (500+ Dorking)

Caveat: I'm hearing we are doing all we can to get Brooking playing Saturday. If he does, I'm revising my prediction to this;

Horsham (1)1 Dorking W (2)3 (Carter, Briggs and Brooking)

Hoping for a draw, so I can go to replay. However I expect, Horsham's pacey forwards will be too much for ageing defence and depleted Dorking. 3-1 to Horsham.

Hester-Cook may be suspended for Horsham as sent off in last game.

I note new young striker not available. Presumably cup-tied?

@crawleysth Interesting, didn't see that CHK was sent off against Cray. I looked on the FA website and he doesn't show as suspended for the game though so it might not take effect until after Saturday (similar to the Bobby-Joe situation).

Yeah, Alexandrou is cup-tied, in fact it says he isn't available until the home game against Hornchurch on 5th Oct. I'm guessing he is playing one or two more games for St Ives before he joins up with us?

I think Alexandrou can play the league game away at Weston on 21 Sept.

I think the article was just worded unusually and was saying what his first home game could be (as an excuse to post a ticket link)

@dorking-eagle That makes sense. I did think it was odd that we would announce the signing now but not have him available for the next league game...

So with Brooking in for the season, and no worries about being cup tied, I'd say this line up updated from Tom's original post;

                Foulkes

          Brooking     Craig      Gallagher

Briggs        Pybus         McManus       Bowerman

                            Carter

                    Prior          Murphy

@adeb Marc mentioned about not rushing Brooking in the update which sounds like he might not start. Even if he does, I reckon Francomb plays on the left instead of Gallagher.

Sounds like Prior might be a doubt as well so could be Rutherford and Murphy up top. Good to hear that Fuller is available as well.

@calvertskans Yeah agreed. My number one concern is those pacey Horsham forwards and what we do to stop them!

2-1 Horsham.

I just think with the diabolical FA Cup record since 2019, as well as the fact so many are playing with injuries means this game has come at the wrong time. The FA cup curse continues for another season unfortunately.

More tickets now available for DWFC (although Marc said during the update we should just buy them from Horsham's website anyway 🤣).

His other message was 'stand together' - I agree, but it's a bit tricky, especially when we're kicking towards the clubhouse end...

I can't see a win here I'm afraid.  Slow defence, fast forwards, little goal threat. 3-0 Horsham - hope I have jinxed that result though. Great if Brooking plays - may be best to put him in the middle of a four alongside TC, given the threat from the oppo, but I don't suppose that will happen. But fantastic to have him for the rest of the season.
