Exactly 1 year on from the dreadful 5-1 defeat in the torrential rain, we face Oldham Athletic again. They arrive in much different form to last year (where they hadn't won an away game yet) with 3 wins from their last 5. They're actually much better away from home than at Boundary Park where we were unfortunate to not get all 3 points back in September.

McShane the latest serious injury leaves us very short of attacking option as Prior is also unlikely to be risked after the Boxing Day debacle. Marc mentioned Francomb and Fuller will be 50/50 for the game but still no news on the Muitt injury.

Oldham will be without in-form loan signing Josh Stones as he suffered an injury on NYD leading him to be recalled by Wigan.

Predictions:

Dorking 2-2 Oldham (Carter, Ottaway)

2,759 attd.

                            Male

        Gallagher       Craig       Hollis

 Briggs         Pybus       McManus      Bowerman

                         J. Taylor

                   Ottaway     Carter

Subs: Francomb, Kennedy, B.Taylor, Blair, Moore

That was one terrible, terrible day. Let's hope it's nothing like that again.

Anyway I'm going with you Tom;

Dorking (2) 2 Oldham A (1) 2 (Ottaway, Hollis)

2,456 (612 Latics)

Pretty sure we’ve already sold over 612 so you might have to revise that mate 😉

We’re really looking forward to our 2nd visit to Dorking, the respect for what you have achieved is genuine from us and we see a kindred spirit in Marc White, like Frank, a genuine owner who wants the best for the club. It all started with Franks quip about “where is Dorking?!” But that was genuine rather than malicious and IF we do ever get back to the EFL Dorking will be one of our best NL memories

That said, I wouldn’t put it past you lot to beat us to it with your wining mentality!

I’m expecting a close game with few goals.  It wasn’t a 5-1 game last season. The only consolation that day - if you can call it that - was getting a perfect view of that goal of the season job, from Fondop I think, with his Thierry Henry impression. That’s enough of that!

Think it was more like the Justin Fashanu effort from 1980  for Norwich against Liverpool

Must be one of my top 5 all time goals, that. RIP Justin, what a player.

Good to hear that Prior is back. Hopefully Fuller and Ottaway make it as well.

Yep, great to hear Prior is back, he makes such a difference in both attack and defence!

My prediction, a 2-0 win with goals by Prior and Hollis

Attendance 2850 including 777 Latics fans

That is great news yes.  If Blair and Bowerman are crossing for Prior and Ottaway - I smell goals!!

I'm happy Prior is back, but should he start? I'm hoping he comes on as a sub. It seemed him coming back to start on Boxing Day was a little too soon. Maybe I am just being a bit nervous, but with the amount of injuries, and the latest being Macca's ACL (feel really bad for him), I'm hoping that they ease Prior back in and not start him. I will concede this is thoughts from far away, and they have a physio team that presumably knows best. Just don't want to see any more players go down in the first 20-30 minutes because they weren't ready to start.

Absolutely gutted not to win that, thought we were comfortably the better side and created the better chances (it’s not too often we’ve been able to say that recently!).

Great to see Prior back, but fear it could be the end of Briggsy’s season

Yep, gutted not to get anything out of that. Best performance for some time.  Dominated for 70 minutes and created enough chances to win it. How Carter did not score I will never know.

I thought we looked so much better with Bobby Joe on the wing. And even better when Blair came in to create chances.  Agree that Briggs is not a starter even when fit.

Just annoying in first half we managed to pass the ball out of play under no pressure four times; the last of which led to the corners and the goal.  So unnecessary. And Oldham created little else.

But good signs for the rest of the season, with Carter back in midfield and someone up front with Prior.

Created a few chances. A couple of key saves by Oldham goalie kept them all the points, but we didn't test him nearly enough. We did look dominate in that second half. Hoping our form keeps improving as we have a run of tough games.

What happened to Briggs? Marc barely said anything in the post match interview.

Gutted. We seemed to be cursed against Oldham.

Looked a bit rusty in the first 20 mins. You could tell Fuller and Pybus hadn't played much recently. Once Bobby came on though, we were completely dominant.

Prior/Carter were onside for the disallowed goal frustratingly. Really need to be taking some of those other chances tho. I still think we need a striker.

I couldn't see what the Briggs injury is. Was it hamstring again?

Briggs has done his 'other hamstring' apparently.

He's having a terrible run of injury misfortune lately. Real shame as he is one of the real 'true Wanderers'.

I think when he comes back from this one he needs to play at a lower level (on grass) for a month or so, a he properly rehabilitates and builds up strength in a less pressured setting

But I'm only a fan and what do I know.

As for todays game I thought Oldham were slightly better 1st half, we had it all second half but the finishing just didn't happen for whatever reason.

I did think that if we'd had Prior 1st half we could have put crosses in for him. So unlucky overall we didn't get a draw.

I look at the table and I reckon the bottom 3 will probably go down, but the last (4th bottom place) is any one of 8 teams, including Southend and Hartlepool

I heard lots of 'off the field' plans today and it would be so exciting if they can come to fruition, so staying in this division is absolutely imperative.

Looks like 50pts is the target - ie slightly more than a point a game.

Keep the faith you loyal Wanderers
