Shame to see Seager go as he's a good quality striker to have in the squad. Hasn't looked at his best in front of goal this season though and it's good for us to get a fee for him.
I am a little surprised that we did this with Rutherford only just back from injury. I would have waited a couple of weeks to see if Alfie comes through a few games without an injury first.
Possibly an incoming to replace or will McShane just cover as the 4th striker role when needed? I'd love to see that Ajakaiye from Horsham come in personally.
Yes I had a lot of time for him. Good goal poacher and found his feet well at NL level.
Equally surprised tbh - was just thinking we have 4 good quality strikers on our books, although you have to wonder how many years both Prior and Ottoway have left in them (both look super fit at the moment however..)
I am surprised by this, however Seager will get more game time at Havant. Just hope it doesn't come back and bite Marc on the arse. Will Have to wrap Alfie in cotton wool now. I feel we need a nippy type of striker, as the three left are all reasonably big lumps. Just hope Marc has a replacement lined up. Totally agree with @calvertskans would love to see Ajakaiye from Horsham join.
I'll have a Guinness
I would have thought with the high quality signings that the club has made over the past 12 months that this helps balance the budget - Havant have paid a fee as well.
The realistic ambition for this season is a second season of consolidation rather than a promotion push, so having 4 strikers on the payroll probably isn't top priority at this time
I wouldn't call Alfie a reasonably big lump, I would put him in the nippy striker bracket.
I do like Steve King so I hope Seager helps him turn around Havant's poor form and position.
"Why would I leave to join a League Two club? We're going there anyway!" - Marc White
@dorking-eagle Yes Alfie looked really fit and quick on Saturday - definitely a nippy striker for me! In fact, all 3 remaining strikers work tirelessly as well as having very high levels of skill so injury permitting we're still in a really good place.
I would actually be surprised if we don't replace him the more I think about it. Seager made 44 appearances last season (2nd most) and 17 this season (3rd most) with 16 goals and 5 assists in that time. That is a lot of minutes and goal contributions to lose from the side, especially with our injury record. I like Ottaway as he works hard and offers something different but he is ultimately a 4th striker level of player and doesn't have as many goals in him as Seager.
If Prior or Alfie picks up an injury then we would be in a bit of a desperate position for goals. We're already 13 goals worse off this season compared to this point last season so I worry that we just won't score enough goals going forward to stay up.
From Seager's point of view he's probably thinking he's been playing well, but in the time since he's signed we've re-signed Jason Prior and taken the no.9 shirt back, Ottaway has established himself and now with Alfie Rutherford back is his role at Dorking Wanderers what he signed up for?
Credit to him, basically immediately had to cover for losing our top strikers Jason and Alfie long term injured and scored some important goals for us while always being professional on the pitch.
Personally think he could have moved to another NL side - he definitely has the quality. Give him a chance and he'll more than likely bury it. I don't actually recall him missing a single easy chance.
Class professional, don't think he was ever booked, never argues, runs himself into the ground. If we are replacing, it will surely be one hell of a striker.
Seager will be a big miss, good squad player.
I'm feeling a bit worried and concerned for Alife, there might be too much pressure on the lad. I think it could take 4 to 6 weeks before he is fully up to speed in the National League.
Me personally I would of kept Seager and moved Mcshane on but I would think the reason Seager left was not enough game time.
@happy-hammers Seager had the second most appearances of any outfield player in the squad this season, only 1 behind Ottaway, Josh Taylor and Gallagher. He had considerably more starts than Ottaway as well. But I agree, he probably assumed his game time would become limited once Rutherford got up to speed.
I think it is a move that suits both the player and the club well. Seager gets a bit more guaranteed game time and it was probably closer to home I am guessing. Dorking get what I assume was a decent fee for a player that was no longer indispensable to the team.
The next few weeks will probably determine if we look at bringing in a replacement or not. If all 3 strikers and McShane stay fit and Alfie looks fairly sharp then we probably won't. If we do though, I really hope we take a look at Ajakaiye once the Horsham FA Cup run ends. He's a good age, local and the sort of player we don't really have in the squad currently with his speed.
How can I put this ,I can't see Ajakaiye!!!!!
