Dorking Wandering
The Dorking Wanderers FC Fans Forum
Better late than never, what are we thinking?
St Albans have 1 point from their first 4 games and calls on twitter for their manager to be sacked!
Dorking severely depleted by lack of fit options in the squad but the players we do have a top class in my opinion
I am plumping for a strong win today to get the Torquay game out of our system!
Should be a good crowd too with no football at Sutton, Crawley, Aldershot are away etc etc
COYW!

@dorking-eagle Looks like all the South West teams drew eachother for the most part though?
I don't think we would be in that Zone 5 section by the looks of it. I assume we would be Zone 4.

Ah yes, you are spot on, zone 4 looks much more local, Redhill etc
My bad
So lines 47-66
Albeit there will be big changes to those clubs still in the cup plus teams entering at different rounds from last year.
But it gives a geographical idea to be fair.

@dorking-eagle Will be interesting to see what zone Boreham Wood go in as I don't see St Albans and Chelmsford on that list so I am guessing there is North London/Essex/etc zone.
Basically we want to avoid Maidstone, Worthing and Farnborough (any of the NLS teams tbf). I really don't want to play Horsham again either...

Don't worry. They've got to get past Virginia Water (at home) first...

If we were to win our Round 2 qualifying game though, Round 3 qualifying only had 3 zones across the country last season, this was zone 3, which includes South Wales and all the way down to Devon, so potentially Truro too

Gone a bit off-topic on this thread but it's all good.
Tonight I am watching the league cup draw wondering if Palace will get a midweek trip to Fleetwood or Barrow!

Has anyone seen an official attendance for the St Albans game yet?
@calvertskans No, nothing.
Another disadvantage of losing the printed programme imo, is that the record of attendances tends to get lost in the mist of time.
Aldershot used to publish the away figures too - might still do.
Actually, it might be interesting to do a survey on the programme on here - David I know you're a big fan of it - maybe we can set up something?
@adeb Football Web Pages is good for attendances:
https://www.footballwebpages.co.uk/dorking-wanderers/attendances
It's showing the official attendance as 1600 now which is the number I had heard.
@calvertskans Cheers. Attendances holding up really well. Especially given the lower away numbers - and that the kids are still off so many are away.
I was corresponding with the CEO Jon Bines on twitter and said (about the St Albans attendance) that it looked like 1450 - 1500
He replied that it 'ended up just south' of my guesstimate, so I would say from that the low 1400's.
There were Academy lads with clickers counting the number of people coming through every entrance (even Main reception) for the game.
I thought this was to check the disparity between the Borehamwood originally announced crowd of 1274 and the perceived attendance (Marc said in his Borehamwood post match interview that it looked a lot more than the announced 1200ish) - Borehamwood was later adjusted to 1621.
Jon Bines said that the checks were because they switched ticket companies this season (from Kaizen to Ticketco) and they wanted to verify the numbers (presume to make sure the ticket company are passing on the correct number of tickets sold and not passing on lower sales numbers than reality)

On the subject of programmes (we are really going off topic now!) it's a huge annoyance to me that Dorking aren't printing any more. Clubs going 'digital' is a bugbear of mine as I am a big collector and also a traditionalist.
Starting with the positives, I do always manage to obtain a teamsheet every home game, and they are always top quality. I would hope any away fans visiting Meadowbank are also able to obtain them easily (but I am not so sure of that). I would even pay a quid for a teamsheet if it helped the club to be honest.
The reality for the 'digital' programme that Dorking have done this season though is that it really is a load of rubbish.
It is not in programme or magazine format at all so very difficult for people like me who want to keep a physical copy to create one from it.
For some reason I also cannot see a page of links on the club website to previous issues? If you don't see the tweet do you even know where the programme is? There should be QR codes pinned around the ground.
I personally spent time doing 'copy and paste' from each digital issue to make my own 8 page programme (cover, managers notes, away team info, league table etc) and get it printed for myself (which costs me more than the old printed programme did). But it really is rubbish compared to the look and feel of a proper programme.
I suspect DW have been 'sold' space on the zeeon.co.uk hosting platform for their digital programme, so will stick with it, but it really is an awful format. In reality it is just a series of links to articles and webpages, which in turn are hard to convert to any sort of programme format.
During covid lockdown, the club was digital programme only, and I had every copy printed off for my collection and they looked perfectly good and perfectly normal.
The B team this season have digital programmes (only 5 pages) but they are in magazine format and look fine. Could we not just have that?
The teamsheet on the last couple of 1st team 'digital programmes' doesn't even have the referee on it.
I can do a survey if you want, but really if sales weren't good enough or it's just the direction the club want to go in, then digital it is.
But PLEEEEASE can we just have a digital programme in 'magazine' format?!! And put them online. Use the B team template if needed!
DW do so many things right, but this is such a little thing, and the club could easily improve the situation. Please make it better! Rant over!
