Probably not going to be the hottest topic on the forum, but it looks like a date has been set for the home game against Lingfield

10th Dec 2024 at Meadowbank

IF (big if cause it could be the B team) we win that game, then we would play AWAY at Farnham Town in the next round (date tbc)

COYW!

Squad list is out. Loads of fan favourites.

Game has fallen at a handy time. There will be more than one objective with the team selection.

Giving young prospects a chance (Rawlins, Brown)

Giving old favourites a re-evaluation (Baz, Bobby-Joe)

Giving a few a kick up the ar... (you decide)

I would say the only surprises in the squad are Rutherford and Williams but I can sort of see why they are included. Thought Fuller's time at DW was done so nice to see him included as well.

I expect Fuller to start at the back with Gallagher (in place of Richardson) and I am sure Alfie will probably play the first 45 mins only. I expect Pybus, Taylor, Williams and McManus to share the midfield over the course of the 90.

Myles not being included is a bit of a surprise so not sure if he's injured or going out on loan potentially. Also a shame that Magnus Norman isn't fit yet.

Looked like a good performance last night with the 3 quick goals.
Any idea when the draw is for the next round?

@gary-munnery First half was a really good performance, second half was awful.

Not sure on the draw as there are still games from this round and the previous round to be played for some clubs. Probably in early Feb at some point.

Teams we could face in the Quarter Final:

Leatherhead

Carshalton

Redhill

Walton & Hersham

Merstham

Kingstonian or Chertsey

Ashford Town (Middx)/ South Park / Croydon Athletic

Sutton United and Woking are already OUT

Anyone know what Mark’s comments about the academy lads being severely weak when they came on mean for the academy?

He brought Wooster, Brown, and Rawlins on in that game and said it was a waste of time them even training with the first team which is very harsh.

The one thing that doesn’t make sense to me about the youth set up from U7 to U16, is that they dont play in a professional standard youth league.

They have teams still playing in this grassrooots Sunday surrey youth league which contains footballing giants like Ascot, Nork Park, Badshot lea, and Bedfont etc…

Is it any wonder why they don’t attract the best lads from the area to play for them? They are still essentially amateur all the way up to U16.

This seems to be the biggest issue with the youth set up. They simply aren’t playing at a high enough level up to U16s.

Wasn't a big fan of that comment by Marc but I do agree they were very poor when they came on. Maybe a little bit harsh on Rawlins who barely saw the ball (along with McShane) as we spent the whole second half unable to play out from the back.

Worth mentioning that most of our B Team / Academy A side play at Step 6 so playing against a top of the table Step 4 side will be a challenge for them. I think it is very important that a lot of those promising B Team players get as many minutes out on loan at Step 3/4 as possible.

@calvertskans Yes I get the youngsters get to play step 6 or go on loan at step 3 and 4, but that is only the oldest cohort.

Most of the other teams at our level are not playing their youth U7-U15 teams in grassroots leagues.

If the club hopes to attract and retain top level talent from U7s up they need to progress beyond playing in grassroots leagues.

What is the plan here? If Mark wants academy lads coming through with genuine talent then the youth set up needs to be professional from the younger ages. That starts with competing against teams at that level.

Most of the Dorking teams play in a grassroots low level league with Sutton's development team and a bunch of tiny little clubs whose senior teams play at step 6 or even lower!!

You are not ever going to bring talented lads through under the current regime.

You cannot just buy lads off the shelf forever. And the academy can make you money, just look at the money the AFC Wimbledon academy makes the club.
