Topic starter

This lad was brought in to play half of the games and JP9 to play the other half, in order to share the load.

However, JP9 is playing every game 90 minutes every week and having to go out on his shield.

Whilst Murphy for the last  19 games where he has been in the squad has been getting between 1 minute and 45 minutes on the pitch.

Seems bizarre to spaff so much of your wage bill on a CF who has managed only two lots of 45 minutes inside 19 games! Surely better with play offs coming that we shift him and bring someone in who can actually share the load with JP9?

Thoughts?

Clearly wont be here next season. However, surely an argument to release now and bring someone in for next season?

Agree not contributed enough this season, presumably due to injury or not being picked, and wouldn't offer him new contract. Transfer window closed 27 March though so might as well keep him till end of season particularly if injury Prior picked up Saturday keeps him out.

Murphy is incredibly talented however Prior offers a defensive workload on top of converting chances, so is getting the lions share of matches at the moment.

We knew Murphy had limited legs when he arrived and I'd say he has probably featured even less than was originally envisaged.

If I was the owner (well more than 0.0001% of the shares lol!!) I would move him on in the summer if we possibly can.

Whichever division DW are in next season, there needs to be a proper overhaul of the squad, no more sentimentality - even a few 'True Wanderers' in the squad (think those who have spent much of this season injured or on loan or both) will need to be replaced IMO, even if it is unthinkable for them to be no longer around.

Was obviously a risk signing him considering his age and injury record combined with our pitch and Marc even achknowledged that at the beginning of the season. Ultimately though, it was a risk that probably did not pay off considering he only has 1 league start and 4 league goals. However, if we end up going up, you could argue that his winning goals against St Albans, Weymouth and Tonbridge were probably worth it!

What players are you thinking? The likes of Moore, Fuller, BJT? Marc talks very highly of Moore so he’d probably stick around for another season now he’s fit again.

As for Murphy, it’s a shame it hasn’t really worked out. As said Marc just loves Priors defensive duties as well as goal scoring ,so he’s been important in the run we’ve had recently. I’d certainly be looking at moving him on in the summer whatever league we are in

I don’t know Murphy hadn’t played more, how fit he is, nor how much money he is on, but it seems a shame Marc has not made more of him.  His goal at Weymouth was worth a bob or two, and he has generally looked a class above when given the chance.  Maybe he would have got more game time if Alfie and JP had not stayed remarkably fit given the minutes they have put in, and both been playing really well.

But agree  next season we will need fresh legs up front and at the back. We’ve been fortunate that TC has stayed fit all season and hardly put a foot wrong. If we do go up, some bigger, quicker players will be needed.

I think it's just a case of 'where would he fit in' - given Alfie and Jason are pretty much nailed on starts, and for good reason. So he has been well used as a kind of super sub, albeit perhaps not as often as he would've liked. You never know, he could still play a major part if we have to settle for the play offs.

Next season, regardless of division, I think we need a new winger, striker and centre back. We're fine for midfielders!

Re players moving on, I think there's a few - mostly the older ones, but also one or two who just have not managed to get (top) form back following injury.
