  1. With the players we had available last Saturday what would your team be this Saturday.
  2. Formation.
  3. Style of play.

Good question Gary and not an easy one to answer! Desperately need Prior back imo but if not Seagar for Ottaway, and I'd play Kuhl for McShane, as I like his toughness.

Probably a slightly more direct style too - get it out wide a little quicker

My formation is 4-4-2.

                                           Male

            Fuller          Craig       Gallagher   Lankshear

Bowerman           Pybus             Taylor          BJ. Taylor

                                 Ottaway      Seager

Style  only play out of  the back only when you can.

Play forward , play for 2nd ball.

Gallagher only in as we haven't another CF as Cook has been told to go.

@happy-hammers I like your line up. I was thinking 3-5-2 with Dan G. at DM, and flip Bobby-Joe with Seb. Also with having the 3-5-2, Josh and Pybus in the middle more in a striking role, we have more options than just going down the sides. Also, I was wondering about Cook.

@robh I'm just thinking we need to be hard to beat, solid at the back and stop conceding goals, don't like the 3.

I think we should be looking at our players and thinking what do they do best and work with that in mind, because at the moment what Marc is asking them to do they can't. IMO.

@happy-hammers Yeah, goal concession is really bad. We have the 2nd most goals allowed (technically tied with Aldershot) and worst goal diff in the league. I think Eastleigh is a more direct team, and having Dan G. playing back can help with space that often comes up in the mid field. I guess the 4-4-2 would be a more solid defense.

Problem though might be Dan's ankle.  Perhaps he ought to be rested until it fully recovers.  No good depending on him if he has to come off again at half time.

@Gary Pascoe I agree the style of football needs to adapt to who is available. 442 likely to be more solid. At the moment, going round the sides isn’t working and is too predictable. Ideally, there should be the option of playing through the middle, through Kuhl/Pybus/Taylor, or going long, through Prior and Seager or Ottaway running off him.  I would always have Bobby Joe on the left (wing back or part of a back 4, not 3) because he offers so much going forward.
Hopefully Francombe is back to join a back 4, or in midfield if Dan G is fit to play CB with Barry RB. Don’t envy Marc trying to make it work, but for me they are not playing with much confidence at the moment , so the ball is being passed too slowly to hurt teams.
