We return to the NLS with the long, long trip to Truro City. They were newly promoted to the NLS last season and narrowly avoided relegation with a late run, finishing in 16th place, despite playing the majority of their home games closer to York than Truro!

Marc said in his update that Norville-Williams is 50/50 for the game and that McShane and Gallagher remain sidelined. No word on Bowerman which suggests he may be fit for the game.

Predictions

Truro 1-1 Dorking (Rutherford)

Absolutely no idea what to predict for attendance as they have never played here before so let's say 1,398 (52)

                          Foulkes

        Camp           Craig        Francomb

 Muitt          J.Taylor      Moore           B.Taylor

                          Carter

               Rutherford    Murphy

Subs: Fuller, Pybus, Kuhl, Briggs, Prior

Truro 1 - Dorking 2 (Murphy, Muitt). The past few seasons, Dorking has had strong opening games. Last year was a wild one at Chesterfield. Hoping that Marc rallies the positive. Having JNW out might hurt that left attacking side. There is a lot of pace with him and BJT on that side. I do think Kuhl has a good chance of starting or coming on for Moore.

As an aside, and a total inconsequential rant, as an international fan not having the ability to stream all the league games is vexing. I get that they tried to stream games in Step 2, and maybe didn't have as much success, and probably the cost-benefit analysis showed a deficit, so they reduced the number of games. Yet, they only have one game streaming on National League TV in NLS, and 3 in NLN. There has been no further talk about how this service would negatively impact attendance (at least that I have seen), and seems like a good way to keep people engaged in the National Leagues. Maybe price points can drop for NLS and NLN for day passes. I don't know. Anyway, I'm assuming that I can listen to the game via BBC radio, but would much prefer to stream the match. Nonsensical rant over.

@robh Got the score right. Anyone that went able to give a summary of the game? Managed to listen to the first 20 mins on the radio (made more difficult once we put our kit inside out lol) and sounded like we had a lot of possession which Truro allowed, was it more of the same?

You called it RobH - respect!  Sounded like a pretty decent performance but interested to hear from those who made the long trip down there. More respect.  Ability to use 5 subs will no doubt help us this year, given ageing players and usual injuries. Surprised that Bowerman started but seemed to be getting some joy down the wing?

Loved the kit fiasco. Refreshingly amateur. Apparently Charlie Carter forgot to bring a knife to cut the half time oranges too. 😀

How could they not notice before kick off???

Started really well; the first 15 minutes was all Dorking and we had a lot of success from wide positions. Looked like we would score from every cross and eventually did after Jimmy got on the end of a good cross from Seb. Had a fairly stonewall penalty shout on Prior denied a few minutes after that as well.

We then lost our way a bit and sat too deep and tried to just go long over the top to Prior and Murphy which didn't work at all. Foulkes had to make a good save from a one-on-one before they then scored a fairly scrappy goal from a corner. We still dominated possession for the rest of the half though.

Started the second half the same as the first and found a lot of success out wide again. We then scored a scrappy goal from a corner ourselves before starting to repeat the pattern of the first half. Truro couldn't really create any chances though and there only real chance was a header from a corner that went just wide. Briggs had a couple of big chances to put it to bed, one was after an excellent mazy run past several defenders.

Good defensive performance from all the back 3 and Foulkes was excellent as well but in reality we were never really in any danger of losing. Josh Taylor and Carter were excellent in midfield and Alfie looked good when he came on as well. Dan Pybus looked very good considering he's only had limited minutes in the last couple of pre-season games. Bowerman had a fair bit of joy down the left in the first half, especially as it was his first game back from injury.

A better side would have likely got at least a point against but it is always hard to gauge performances from the first couple of games of the season.

Side note - the kit clash was ridiculous and by far the worst example of it i've ever seen. You genuinely could not tell the difference from the stands. Everyone couldn't believe what they were seeing when the teams started walking out. You could see Marc and their manager were complaining to the ref (who was awful yesterday by the way) before KO but she seemed to deem it fine and started the game anyway. Those first 4 minutes were an absolute farce and you had no idea what was going on. When the ball went out of play, Marc and their manager again complained to the ref and she seemed to see sense and we went back to the changing rooms before coming out a few minutes later having just turned the shirts inside out 🤣

Apparently we were told that they had a black and red striped shirt which would clash with our home and away (blue/black) so we were asked to wear the orange one. Turns out their shirt wasn't striped at all and we could have probably just worn the blue/black without a clash.

Pretty sure Hampton & Richmond have a similar kit so it will interesting to see what we wear then...

Felt pretty good. Glad Muitt got the opening goal. Felt as though he was flying towards the end of last season, and hoping he would come out really strong. Was surprised that Bowerman started, but seems as though he was doing well. Two games back to back is going to be a really endurance test this early in the season.

The commentary was amusing (if not a little annoying) with the kits turned inside out. "Not sure who that was that did the thing". The commentary kept saying that Dorking seemed calm and in control.
