Dorking Wandering
The Dorking Wanderers FC Fans Forum
Let's have your predictions for Saturday - I'm not being too fooled by Working's poor form though, and think there might be a reaction to the defeat at Weston last night...Also, this is of course pending injury news;
Dorking (1)2 Woking (0)1
2,480 (679 from Surrey's other club)
Have to say I think the performance was dreadful. Played right into the hands of Woking by going long so often and just became such a scrappy game. Gaffer got it badly wrong I'm afraid. The only positive was being able to watch Charlie Carter as he looks to be some player and could be a real star for us.
Wasn't our best game but we've been much worse this season and personally I thought in the 2nd half we were finding our feet and building towards something positive until the lino injury and we completely lost concentration after that break. Without that we could've taken a 0-0 which I thought would've been a fair result until we imploded.
Appreciate Marc calls it as he sees it and that we do have a long list of injuries, but to be honest we've had a long list of injuries to key players for at least 2 seasons now and I'd rather not see it as a regular excuse in interviews to cover in games where we lose due to specific mistakes that are down to either the players or bad decision making. Other clubs at our level, who aren't as able to recruit so proactively as we do, have their injuries too (Gateshead/Hartlepool/Southend for example).
Onwards and upwards.
1-1, sorry, not 0-0!!!
A side note to the Woking game - thought their fans were, as usual and obnoxious bunch of idiots.
Walked out with them as a short cut from the main stand, and they're singing some stupid derogatory song about Marc. Told them to shut up but don't think they heard me. Probably just as well...
Out of interest did Marc give them the usual pub kitty, because I didn't hear any announcement about it?
Personally I think the acts of generosity are a bit too often - fair enough the occasional spontaneous one, when we lost 6-0 at Gateshead perhaps do something, but not what feels like all the time, otherwise people come to expect it as standard.
Difficult balancing act I know, but I'd prefer it if there was just the occasional gesture for Wanderers fans (ie less than there is now) and cut out the vast majority of stuff that is done for away fans that come here. Look after your own (occasionally only!) As kind as it is (and he is so generous), people can buy their own beer or burgers most of the time and that way the club gets more budget to grow and succeed with.
"Why would I leave to join a League Two club? We're going there anyway!" - Marc White
I didn't hear anything about a beer kitty either.
I think gestures like this are a great innovation and help to make the club a bit different, as well as support local businesses - but I agree they should probably not become too "standard". It is the randomness of these gestures that makes them special.
As it happens, loads of Woking fans found their way to the Snakepit after the game and were absolutely fine - but they were not the kids that probably were doing the chanting.
I agree, needs to be special and not a given. But it is widely recognised and appreciated so great publicity for the club.
I think Marc said he only does it for those that sell out the away end, which Woking certainly did not - anyone know the away figure? Looked to me around 650, maybe less, as there was plenty of room, even behind the goal.
Kind of shuts up all those keyboard warriors taking the p*ss out of Wanderers 4-500 following at their place tbh.
