Worthing are the visitors on Boxing Day at Meadowbank. A side that currently sit one point behind us in 7th place with 3 wins and a draw in their last 5 games. The Worthing side also features four ex-Wanderers in the form of Nicky Wheeler, Kane Wills, Sam Beard and Joe Cook.

Marc mentioned in his update that the squad should be the same as Chesham with the only question mark being whether or not they continue to rest Charlie Carter to allow him further time to recover from his knock. Dan Pybus did play 45 mins (and scored) for the B Team on Saturday but it seemed as though Marc suggested he would not feature on Boxing Day for the first team.

Predictions:

Dorking 2-2 Worthing (Rutherford, Prior)

2,438 att.

                         Foulkes

         Camp          Craig         Milsom

Briggs       Gallagher      McManus        Muitt

                          Young

                    Prior      Rutherford

Subs: Francomb, Norville-Williams, Carter, Randall, Murphy

Excited for this, sounds like they are bringing up good numbers.

Suppose not much to change from back to back wins, although would be nice to see Charlie.

Score draw for me too , 1-1

That felt like points dropped at home. They were not great shakes and we looked the better side. We did switch off though for both of their goals, so need to be more alert in certain situations.

The Briggs sending off changed everything, and meant second half we had to sit off them and couldn't press which made it easy. It was clear they were happy with 2-1 and not really looking to get in behind us.

I thought Alfie was shocking today, and could not understand why Murphy was only brought on for the last 10 minutes. Especially considering how poor he was on the ball all game, and the fact we needed that goal. Murphy should have come on at half time or 10 minutes into the second half.

Another thing I cannot understand is why we never shoot direct from free kicks. A moment there in the second half in a great position with a free kick and no direct shot goes in one goal. Strange, especially when we are 2-1 down at home.

Quite simply - we should've won that by a distance.

Clearly the better side second half, and at least 4 very clear cut chances. Maybe just put it down to a bad day, but the concern is our home form. What's going on - is it the pitch? We seem a far more clinical side away for some reason.

@adeb If you listen to the interviews then its clear Marc hates the pitch. He even was quoted yesterday as saying if that one of those 2v1s were on a grass pitch yesterday the ball does not get stuck under the feet, and one of those goes in.

The pitch is being used as an excuse now, and that perhaps explains why performances at home are so poor.

There is definitely a lack of goals being scored at home that is clear compared to the away games. We have absolutely obliterated teams away from home this season, have not even looked close to doing that at home.

It also cannot help the players mentally that the pitch throws up at least one really serious one non-contact injury every season, that has to play on the mind.

The shit pitch needs to be ripped up and replaced with something at least on a par with every other semi-professional side at the level. There are primary school pitches in Dorking that are better to play on than MB.

The pitch HAS to go in the summer anyway, this is the last season of it's FIFA accreditation

What replaces it?

Marc's choice is a hybrid grass pitch, but unless you can convince Palace U21's / Brighton U21's or some Crawley teams to chip in and make Meadowbank their second home then I can't see how it could be funded. Solihull have Villa, Sutton have Palace, Borehamwood have Arsenal Ladies, Dagenham have West Ham funding theirs (etc)

The alternative is a straightforward grass pitch, but anyone with a long memory will remember how boggy the old DFC pitch was at the away end. And it won't be able to host all the community use the landlord (Mole Valley Council) expects

Unfortunately I can forsee another 3G pitch replacing what we have. It can't be any worse than the current one as long as we don't use the same company. Most other clubs 3G pitches are better than ours (apart from Whyteleafe's which is garbage and has even more black rubber)

I guess it all hangs on how quickly DW can conclude their stadium business.

I didn’t realise the pitch had to go in the summer. No doubt there will be more money raising schemes to pay for it.  But agree the hybrid option is the best way forward, funding permitting.

That said, we can’t really blame pitch for recent home form, which has become a concern now. Only a couple of seasons ago our home form was decent and away form awful. Maybe it’s more about finding ways to beat a low block, as most teams adopt at Meadowbank it seems. Needs slick passing, which is easier on a decent grass pitch perhaps.  At the end of the day, management have got to find a style of play which suits the pitch, the players and adjusts to the opposition when necessary.  I’m sure they’re working on it…

Strange game in all honesty, don't even know where to start. Thought we started the game really well and should have been 1-0 up but then conceded a dreadful goal from a corner that was very clearly a Foulkes error. Reminds me of Dan Lincoln where he would choose to dive backwards rather than just take a few steps backwards and catch it/tip it over.

Got back in the game well after that and were deservedly level but the moment where Cashman elbowed Camp and went unpunished was a big turning point in the game. The game got really feisty and scrappy after that and the ref just completely lost control which meant we lost our heads somewhat. First we gave away a silly penalty and then Briggs, who was clearly riled up by an earlier challenge that the ref inexplicably did not give, got himself sent off as a result. Red was maybe a little bit harsh as he was running a full pelt and just put his arms out instinctively to brace the impact of running in to Kane Wills. If we had a ground with more space at the end of the pitch then it wouldn't have even been remotely a foul, let alone a red.

Wheeler goal was also really avoidable at several points. McManus got sucked in and Nicky turned him with ease and then Francomb was far too deep considering he was playing in midfield so wasn't able to close down the space. Ultimately though, Foulkes should do much better yet again. He took a step to his left but then stopped which meant he couldn't reach it at full dive even though he had an eternity to react and position himself properly.

Second half was actually suprisingly pretty good by Dorking considering we were playing 10 v 12. Thought Worthing looked really poor second half (and most of the first) and allowed us way more of the ball than they should have. Numerous chances created throughout the half but to no avail. Advanced stats are not out yet but i'm really interested to see the possession and xG values.

That being said, I thought there were a few really poor performances in that Wanderers side yesterday. Norville-Williams was dreadful and its a real puzzle why he seems to have regressed this season but it is costing us on that left hand side. Rutherford had his worst game in a while and I thought it was completely insane to give McManus MOM... Thought Camp or Prior deserved it by a mile.

NYD will be really tough against a good and in-form Hampton side, especially after losing Jack Young to injury. Hopefully Pybus or even Josh Taylor can make a comeback for this one as we really need to make up for Boxing Day and get 3 points to stay in touch at the top of the table.

Think it's just the top level (carpet) that has to be replaced. Can't be anything other than 3G until we own the ground.

Might have been a bit generous to Briggsy; the replay of the red looks really bad and it wouldn't surprise me if he gets more than a 3 game ban for that. I don't think he meant to push Wills in to the barrier and it was more just the force he was running at meant the push was much harder than he thought it would be.

Suspensions take 7 days at this level so he should be available for Hampton though.

Some stats from the game:

Possession: Dorking 48% - 52% Worthing (Our only game this season where we've had less than 50% possession)

xG: Dorking 1.91 - 1.52 (Half of the Worthing xG value was their penalty so shows you how much we dominated the chances)

Shots (On Target): Dorking 14 (6) - 11 (7) Worthing

Top Performer: Harrison Foulkes [8.1]
